Germany’s largest Duathlon POWERMAN Germany will be held in Alsdorf.

Alsdorf, 25. April 2023 – Athletes from all over the world participate in the POWERMAN Alsdorf 2023 this weekend. Top elite duathletes, multi-sport athletes from Europe and overseas will gather at the starting line to take part in one of the world’s largest competitive duathlon race. Among others, athletes from Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, England, Ireland, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Poland and Mexico will participate by the POWERMAN Alsdorf, the pinnacle of duathlon competition globally, is the platform for ardent runners and cyclists to master both disciplines. This run-bike-run race format has been held in Germany since 1993 and this year the fourth time in Alsdorf. Alsdorf will continue the successful history of the POWERMAN Germany.

 

“For the 14 times, our club the Marathon-Club Eschweiler, organizes a duathlon event. We are very excited to be part of the Powerman World Series and will provide the athletes a perfect event.” said Patrick Thevis, Racedirector POWERMAN Alsdorf.

 

750 participants will join the POWERMAN Alsdorf 2023. 20% are coming from Europe and overseas. 

 

Over the POWERMAN Classic distance (10 kilometers running, 60 kilometers cycling and 10 kilometers running) take place the European and German championships for the elite and the age group athletes. 

 

The competitions, in which a total of 750 athletes will participate, take place in the city of Alsdorf. The circuit for the running course leads back in the Alsdorf City from the monument square to the Annapark and over the Rathausstraße. The twenty kilometer cycle route leads over the Übacher Weg and the B221 to Baesweiler and back again. "The short walkways allow spectators to switch between running and cycling in just a few steps, and the finish line at the monument square will provide a goosebumps feel," explains Patrick Thevis, Racedirector POWERMAN Alsdorf. "So the spectators can closely follow the racing events at the POWERMAN Alsdorf," especially as the start and finish area as well as the transition area are being built on the central monument square.

 

 

A very strong Elite starting field

On 30 April, 32 top athletes will compete for victory at the POWERMAN in Alsdorf. The event gathers some of the best athletes in the world, including SIMON JøRN HANSEN from Denmark, vice-champion at the POWERMAN Middle Distance Duathlon World Championships Viborg, and SIMON HUCKESTEIN from Germany, bronze medalist European Duathlon Champion 2022.

The winner of the 2021 Powerman Embrun and 2022 World Duathlon Champion in Zofingen, MATTHIEU BOURGEOIS from France, and the silver medalist at the 2019 POWERMAN Duathlon European Middle Distance Championships in Viborg, JAN PETRALIA from Belgium, will also compete.

Also of particular note is Ernesto Vladimir Becerril Bustamante from Mexico, the competitor with the longest journey. Jan Stratmann from Germany, who finished first at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See in 2021, will also be present.

On the women's side, the reigning German Triathlon Champion over the long distance, MAYA BETZ will participate, along with Marieke Brouwers from the Netherlands, bronze medalist at the 2022 POWERMAN Alsdorf European Duathlon Championships and 2022 Duathlon National Champion, as well as Merle Brunnée from Germany, DUATHLON-WM, POWERMAN ZOFINGEN 2021 and bronze medalist Duathlon-WM POWERMAN Zofingen 2022, and Hannah Arlom, German runner-up over the Olympic distance 2022.

The POWERMAN Alsdorf promises to be an exciting event where athletes will give their best to achieve victory. The event will undoubtedly provide many exciting competitions and moments.

the biggest and most well-known long distance duathlons in the world under

the International Powerman Association (IPA). The IPA cooperates with

the International Triathlon Union in the development and growth of the

duathlon as a sport in general, and the long-distance duathlon in particular.
