POWERMAN
MALAYSIA
12 OCTOBER
2003
The
race was traditionally rainy as per requirement of all Powerman
races......
Conditions
were reminiscent of Powerman 2002 with strong winds and heavy
rainfall
in the early morning.....
The
weather, the way it was suited the ever favourite European
athletes....who, unfortunately forgot about the humidity....
The
first 10k was an extremely fast 0:30:53 led by defending champion and race
favourite John Kelai followed closely by Huub Maas and Jarrad Addams. As the
race unfolded the cyclist began to show their true mettle, where the course
suited the stronger cyclists cum time trialist....allowing for fast bike splits
and averages.
Huub
Maas took over the lead within the first lap, of a rolling 20k 3 lap course, and
maintained the placing right to the finish line with John Kelai hot on his
heels.
"
I realised I had to run fast to keep John(Kelai) at bay, the weather suited me
today, had the weather been traditionally Malaysian and infamous in Powerman
circles as the hottest race around, the result may have been different"
said a noticeably elated Huub Maas.
"It's
great coming to a new race in Asia, and feeling the atmosphere and seeing the
new racers, its even better when you win" added Huub.
"The
race has grown 2 fold in the last 2 years, it is great to see so many returning
faces and an even greater joy to see so many new faces in the sport of duathlon",
said Kronenburg Race Director, Powerman Malaysia
It's
even greater when top International athletes choose to race in Powerman Malaysia,
added Melody Tan, Competitor Relations Manager.
The event was a 10k run - 60k bike - 10k run.
